New 38 ML/day Biological Nutrient Removal Plant With Primary Sedimentation at Quakers Hill

AJM United played a vital role in participating with SW and UGL on delivering the New 38 ML/day Biological Nutrient Removal plant with primary sedimentation at Quakers Hill, to replace the existing secondary treatment plant.

Scope of Works:

  • Supply, Engineering, Manufacturing, Protective Coatings, Delivery of Structural Steel & Piping in Mild and Stainless Steel Materials.

  • Structural Steel, Building, Platforms, stairs, and miscellaneous pipe supports for small and large bore
  • SS316 Launders, Troughs, Scum Boxes, Stop Boards, Discharge & Bypass Weirs,
  • Mechanical Equipment
  • Piping in Stainless 316SS, PVC-U, PE and ABS non-metallic piping and fittings
  • Double Containment Chemical Piping lines using propriety products from GF and Vinidex
  • Ductile Iron rubber and concrete lined installation
  • Removal of Old Assets and Installation of New “Like for Like”
  • Modifications to existing Sydney Water Assets, shutdown works to Tie in new assets into the existing lines and systems.
  • Pre and Dry Commissioning of newly installed and refurbished SW assets.

One of the most challenging projects on the LSCTP Program of works, the Quakers Hill WRP SoW included the installation of the AGS Bioreactor Tanks 1 – 4. There were other areas of work on the project but the AGS tanks are AJM United proudest work on Water treatment projects. The challenges included access and installing the larger parts required the mobilisation of a 120t crawler crane, with large entry scaffold erected to allow safe access in each AGS tanks, with 40ft EWP positioned in each tanks to allow access for joining and fixing of parts.

Each AGS Tank components and pipework inside the reactor were installed in progressive layers to ensure proper and safe access during each phase; planning and coordination had to be precise, the complex task of assembling and installing the different parts  and ensuring plumb line and levels are well maintained and within millimetres for the supports, launders, feed distribution pipes, waste pipes, aeration air pipework, fine bubble diffusers, downcomers and reactor modules.

The Aeration Headers were a complex install and required a detailed construction methodology, with additional quality Control checks to ensure bellows and valves were fitted stress free. Each joint was inspected and tagged using AJM United falange management system. Different types of piping was supplied and installed by AJM United, ductile iron lines for the tertiary filters, sludge harvesting and sludge buffer and lowering tanks, PVCU Sch 80 and ABS Double containments periptery systems for the ferrous chloride & polymer solutions, Fabrication and installation of SS316 pipe and supports, press fit for compressed air and water lines, PE lines electrofusion and Buttwelded for under ground services.

AJM United worked on multiple process facilities on the project including in service areas, coordination with SW operations & UGL was vital to ensure all risks are controlled and or mitigated. All Works were completed to the highest quality standards and workmanship. There were ZERO harm to all employees, contractors the environment a great milestone for SW, UGL and AJM United.
